A CLOSER LOOK | TEESSIDE UNIVERSITY’S ELITE ATHLETE STUDENT SCHEME

Teesside University’s Elite Athlete Student Scheme enjoyed huge success at the 2018 Commonwealth games on Australia’s Gold Coast thanks to students Jade Jones-Hall and Harry Tanfield.

Three medals are on their way back to Teesside University after the games that finished on Sunday. Two-sport medalist Jade Jones-Hall brings home a gold and a bronze from Australia, while cyclist, Harry Tanfield won silver in the men’s time trial.

The scheme is clearly paying dividends as Teesside University would have finished 24th on the final medal table. Above nations such as Ghana and Pakistan.

The Undergrad spoke with Sports Development Officer at the Elite Athlete Student Scheme, Matthew Wright, who told us more about the scheme:

Success of the Scheme

Harry and Jade are both members of the Elite Athlete Student Scheme, which provides detailed and personalised support for elite student athletes towards both academic and sporting excellence.

Matthew explains how their success can be inspiring to the other students on the scheme:
