DISABILITY : Coping with Dyslexia

Dyslexia, only officially defined as late in 2009 as “a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling.”

Yet, despite the severity of the condition, affecting over 10% of the UK population, many people still attach a strange dismissive stigma around the subject.

Whether it be clambering for attention, desperate for additional exam time or simply just not trying hard enough, people seem to portrait Dyslexia as more an excuse as a pose to a learning advisability.

I sat down with Dr Alex Jones, a GP in Marske, but more interestingly, Dyslexic herself, to chat about both how she struggles day to day with her work duties as well as her thoughts around the disability in general.
