Teesside’s Rugby Union players are celebrating after a posting a record breaking 100-0 victory.

It’s not the first time they’ve scored 100 against a team but it is the first time they’ve won a game with this score without the opposition scoring.

The record breaking score came after a recent trip to York University.

Fly-half Jake Whittaker was delighted with the result.

He said: “The lads were saying after the game that this is the standard we’ve set for the rest of the teams in the league now and we need to carry on the momentum.”

“We are all dead pleased with the result.”

They remain unbeaten after the first three games, winning all three of them in the process.

Jake said: “I think if we can play like we did last Wednesday for the rest of the season, you’d certainly hope we can.”

“I don’t see why we couldn’t go in and win the league.”

Jake feels he is performing well this season.

He said: “I’m pretty pleased with how I’ve started.”

“First game I had a try disallowed but it was still a good day out.

“Second game I wasn’t as good but it’s still great to get a good run out in the squad.

“Training is tough but it’s starting to show on the pitch, the hard work is paying off.”

The fly-half said he hoped England’s achievement of reaching the World Cup finals in Japan would inspire people to take up rugby as a sport.

He said: “You can only hope that England’s success will inspire people to take up rugby as it’s nothing short of magical what they’ve been doing.”

“It’s unbelievable how they completely played the All Black’s off the pitch, and hopefully it will inspire more people to become involved in the sport.”
