STUDENTS FUNDRAISE FOR LOCAL CHARITY A WAY OUT

Students have been hard at work in the Teesside University Student Union raising funds for the Stockton based charity A Way Out.

A group of eight  students manned the stall for three hours  collecting cash donations, toiletries, selection boxes and food.

A Way Out helps support vulnerable women, young people and families all year round.

It seeks to empower and equip them to find a way out of life-limiting and life-controlling situations.

The charity covers a wide range of struggles, helping service users with problems such as addiction, self-harm, and exploitation.

Christmas is a very vital time for the charity as the cold weather sets in and vulnerable people can find it extremely tough.

Many don’t have a family to be around on Christmas day or even a roof over their heads.

A Way Out puts together Christmas food hampers every year containing food, gifts and toiletries to help over the festive month.

Many vulnerable people however, need help all year round which is why donations are so vital.

The fundraising stall received gifts and donations throughout the day and raised a total of £77.11.

The team, that has been campaigning for three weeks are hoping to receive a final surge of donations over the remainder of the week.

Along with the funds raised today the students have raised over £70 in online donations.

You can still donate online via the Virgin Money Giving page here.

If anyone has any toiletries, selection boxes, food or gifts that they wish to donate the fundraising team can collect from you direct at Teesside University between 12 noon and 4pm on Thursday November 29 – Just drop a message to the Facebook page to organise a time.
