TEESSIDE CRICKETERS TRAVEL TO LEAGUE LEADERS EDINBURGH

Teesside University cricketers face a trip to the capital of Scotland this weekend, when they take on Edinburgh University in their second round of BUCS Indoor Cricket.

Teesside goes into the game on the back of two wins and two losses in their last round of fixtures, having enjoyed victories over Newcastle 1st team and Liverpool John Moores University 1st team at the Emirates Riverside in Chester le Street.

This weekend sees Teesside take on all three Edinburgh University sides at 1st, 2nd and 3rd level, with their 1st 11 side currently sitting top of the Scotland Northern A Division league table.

Chairman Alan Lofthouse said: “I think the main thing I’m looking forward to this weekend is seeing our players play and hopefully win.

“We’re a tiny university team compared to some other universities in this league and for us to compete against them is just a fantastic opportunity for us.”

Edinburgh 1st 11 currently have nine points, with three wins out of three, with Lofthouse adding: “Hopefully we will give them a challenging game, we have the potential to surprise teams in matches and I’m hoping we will do that to Edinburgh 1st 11 when we play them.

“We reflected a lot over the past few days about our performance at Durham and I think we learnt about our style of play and how best we score runs in this style of competition.”

All-rounder Steve Reeves added: “I’m looking forward to actually competing this season with most of the lads who have spent a few years together now, so we need to take it to the next level.

“Our aim is to win at least half of our games and cause a few upsets as we will be coming up against two out of the three strongest university sides in the country.”
