TEESSIDE UNIVERSITY STUDENT’S FASHION SUCCESS

A former Teesside University fashion student is taking part in a prestigious design training programme in Italy.

Emily Dey,  who put her sewing skills to good use when volunteering at a local charity to upcycle clothes, has landed herself a once of a lifetime opportunity to take part in a new intake of trainee artisans in Milan.

The training programme is run by The Prince’s Foundation and YOOX NET-A-PORTER .

The Prince’s Foundation and YOOX NET-A-PORTER recently unveiled the new artisans for the second edition of the responsible luxury training programme, The Modern Artisan project.

The programme will bring together eight artisans made up of, four British fashion and textiles graduates and four Italian graduates from the leading Italian design school, Politecnico di Milano.

The 23-year-old will embark on a 10 month collaborative paid training programme in which she will undergo four months of immersive design guided by industry experts, followed by six months of intensive training where the eight candidates will come together at The Prince’s Foundation Dumfries House headquarters in East Ayrshire.

The trainees will receive industry visits as well as, the skills to handcraft a collection to the highest of standards.

The artisans will also receive ongoing mentor ship from YOOX NET-A-PORTER, The Prince’s Foundation and brand partners.

Some of those brand mentors include, Gabriela Hearst, Giuliva Heritage, Nanushka, VIN + OMI, Johnstons of Elgin, Tiziano Guardini, Flavia La Rocca and ZEROBARRACENTO.

Emily’s end-to-end process, along with her fellow Modern Artisans, is to design, handcraft and bring to the global market a sustainable, luxury collection.

Profits from the sale of the collection will be donated to The Prince’s Foundation to support future training programmes.
