Teesside University Student Union

Large events are finally returning to Teesside University’s student union after the covid-19 outbreak.

Unfortunately, in March 2020 when the first lockdown happened, all large events were cancelled until July this year when things resumed back to normal.

Sadly, among the events that were rearranged multiple times is bongo’s bingo, which finally went ahead at the student union last night.

Bongo’s bingo is a crazy mix of traditional bingo, dance-offs, rave intervals, audience participation and countless magical moments, currently taking place in almost 50 locations around the world.

It is a wild shared social extravaganza and a night of pure nostalgic escapism, with the chance to win iconic prizes from giant pink unicorns and Henry Hoovers to mobility scooters and karaoke machines at each and every show.

It’s immersive, inclusive and incredible. Everyone from 18 to 92 plays and parties together. There are no barriers and no limits.

SU staff  David Briggs said it was great to see the return of large events at the Students’ Union.

Member of Teesside Student Union staff

He said: “I think the return of large events is great, it’s good that the staff working at these events are protected by wearing masks and the plastic screens at the bar.”

“It’s great that people are out socialising, but people need to be aware of working staff and families who may be at risk from the virus and make sure they take the relevant precautions.”

Students at Bongo’s Bingo last night said they were pleased to be out enjoying themselves again.

Aiden Moore, 22, from Loftus

Teesside Student Aiden said:  “I couldn’t wait to be back out in large venues with my friends, lockdown felt like it went on forever, I love the return of normality.”

“Bongo’s Bingo was a great event for the first highly populated event that I’ve attended since lockdown.”

Natalie Conway, 29, Middlesbrough

Teesside student Natalie said: “Me and my friends come to Bongo’s Bingo every year but unfortunately we couldn’t last year.”

“I was so nervous at first about normality resuming but, I’m so glad large events are back, it’s been well over due.”

Dan and Sarah, Marske

Teesside student Dan: “We bought our tickets for bongos bingo in February 2020 before Covid-19 even existed, we had to cancel and rebook three times.”

“Luckily Bongo’s Bingo gave us a credit note which we could use each time the dates changed.

“It’s been nice to be able to finally come and enjoy ourselves, although it it scary with no masks and no social distancing.”

Jessica, 19, Teesside university student

Teesside student Jessica said:  “It’s amazing to have large events back, it gives people a chance to socialise, especially people like me that have moved to Teesside for university, I didn’t get many opportunities to mix with other people in my first year.”

Bongo’s Bingo was a big hit amongst party goers and it was a great way to kick off the large events at the Student Union.

If you are interested in attending more events  the Student Union  is also holding a unique Halloween special  on Wednesday October 27.
