THE SCREENING ROOM – EXTRA CURRICULAR SUPPORT SITE FOR STUDENTS

February/March saw the launch of TDAA’s extra-curricular support page, the Screening Room. With hundreds of visitors to sessions over the past few weeks, it appears to have been a hit.

The space has been designed to provide students with an extracurricular outlet and environment developed to promote engagement and progression, along with supporting the students outside of the curriculum in a more informal way.

Key elements of the space focus upon:

Production skills

  • Adobe have delivered workshops into this space
  • Our technical and teaching teams are running skills masterclasses and creative challenges using different CS software each week (photoshop poster sessions, audio editing workshops, grading challenges etc.)
  • Exploring other skills programmes too surrounding other industry software used across the department

Film Club

  • We’re holding a bi-weekly film club (using Box of Broadcasts) where we nominate a film each week. Academics provide framework and context for the film at the start of the session and draws upon key themes/clips for discussion. Students and staff discuss this in a live seminar space. This is a really great opportunity to provide cross-discipline discussion and broadening students appreciation for creativity and storytelling.
  • In addition we’re asking students and staff to suggest films and animations, share their own projects too.

Guest Lectures

  • Industry speakers – BBC’s Luke Ellis has delivered a session with more to follow.

Training resources and media

  • Linking to podcasts, training guides, tutorial videos

Job Opportunities/Internships

  • Central link for career opportunities and initiatives for students to engage with.
