Notable events in music history from December 4.

1956 – The Million Dollar Quartet

An impromptu jamming session involving Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins took place at Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, being dubbed the Million Dollar Quartet.

1964 – The Beatles

The Fab Four released their fourth album ‘Beatles For Sale’. The album spent 11 weeks at the No.1 spot in the UK album charts and included ‘Eight Days A Week’, ‘No Reply’, I’m A Loser’ and ‘Rock and Roll Music’ written by Chuck Berry.

1971 – Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin started a two week run at No.1 in the UK album charts with their Four Symbols album, also known as Led Zeppelin IV. The album features the famous 8-minute track ‘Stairway To Heaven’. The album stayed in the US album charts just shy of five years and has sold over 23 million copies in the US alone.

1982 – The Jam

Beat Surrender went to No.1 in the UK singles chart giving The Jam their fourth UK No.1 single. The group split in 1983 prompting leader Paul Weller to form The Style Council.

1999 – Jay-Z

Rapper Jay-Z was arrested, and later released on $50,000 bail, after being accused of attacking Lance Rivera when a fight broke out at a party in a Manhattan club in NYC. It was never released what caused the dispute.
