Mental health problems in men’s football are on the rise

Mental health is one of the biggest problems in modern day life, and is constantly on the rise.

It is also escalating in football, and now more and more professional footballers are seeking counselling for their mental health problems.

One of the biggest issues lies within the youth of today’s football, and after the tragic death of former Manchester City youth player Jeremy Wisten, there still remains more to be done in terms of support for these young stars.

I spoke to former Hartlepool and Morecambe youth player Lewis McDonald and current Doncaster Rovers player James Coppinger on their experiences of mental health in the sport.
