Did you know that with current technology we can now ‘see’ what is behind walls and ceilings?

The integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Augmented Reality (AR) can provide an effective solution for common construction issues. For example, this can help reduce the time required to complete maintenance on a building as the trial-and-error approach of identifying building components would no longer be necessary. To explore the effectiveness of this method, I created a BIM model of a room with its mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) information. I then superimposed the model onto the room using AR visualisation devices. A walk-through analysis was conducted to test the accuracy and effectiveness of the model. Although there were some small inaccuracies and misalignments, this approach proved to be a useful and immersive way to visualise building components.
