Stockton Town charged by FA for fielding ineligible player in playoff semi-final

The whacky world of non-league football strikes again as Stockton Town have been charged for fielding an ineligible player in their semi-final over Guiseley AFC.

The controversy comes as club captain Adam Nicholson who was red carded last Saturday against Hyde United in their final league game of the season on April 26.

Soon after the game had finished against Guiseley, rumours had been circling that Nicholson shouldn’t have been playing.

The club then addressed the rumours at 11.13pm that night posting on X saying: “Despite the rumours regarding club captain Adam Nicholson’s suspension, this is the information the club has stating the suspension does not start until the 3rd May as expected.”

Nicholson had a great game alongside Coulthard leading to The Teessiders keeping a clean sheet.

The club are trying to get the decision by the FA reversed, as it is now in doubt if Stockton will be travelling to Worksop Town on Monday.

In past scenarios like this, the team who have fielded the ineligible player have been given an automatic 3-0 loss, which would mean Guiseley would go on to face Worksop.

This would really dampen the mood around the club after such a historic victory putting them one game from Step 2 football and even setting the record for the clubs’ highest attendance.
