Amazon warehouse divides opinion in Ingleby Barwick

A new Amazon delivery station has prompted mixed reviews from residents with concerns over road delays and obstructed views.

Amazon is constructing a new £40 million delivery station on Queen Elizabeth way, Ingleby Barwick. It is scheduled to open in Autumn 2026 and is offering more than 100 jobs.

Sally Ann Watson, Vice-Chairman of Ingleby Town Council believes that the job opportunities is one of the greatest benefits for the area.

She said: “I learnt last week that they do all of their employment in one day, through the employment hub in Stockton and they will consider children in care, giving them opportunities for permanent jobs.”

Amazon jobs also advertise many opportunities for students at any “point in their educational journey”. They give students the ability to schedule their own shifts and work around their classes and studies.

Although the building offers many job opportunities for people of the area, it has been met with disapproval by some locals.

One resident who wished to stay anonymous said: “The building itself is huge and raised up, so visually it’s not the best look right now.

“A couple of people I know who live on the estate near the Audi garage have even said it blocks their view of the sunset in the evenings which is a shame.

“It would really help if the contractor publicised what they’re doing around biodiversity net gain, especially how they’re meeting their obligations and where that work is actually taking place.”

Lindsay Davidson, another resident of Ingleby Barwick said: “There have been some delays with the traffic but only at busy times.”

She said that slight delays have been caused due to the reduced speed of the road during the road works.

Queen Elizabeth Way was originally a 50mph road but has now been reduced to 40mph during the construction of the Amazon warehouse and new roundabout.
