Midnight charity walk returns to seafront this weekend

The annual midnight charity walk for Teesside Hospice will light up the skies of Redcar seafront in memory of loved ones as it returns this weekend.

With nearly 500 sign-ups so far, the atmosphere looks set to be buzzing for the 11km seafront walk from Redcar to Marske and back again.

Around 4,000 people a year across the Tees Valley benefit from the services Teesside Hospice provides.

Offering care, compassion and dignity, the hospice aims to help people live as well as possible for as long as possible.

Their mission is to help families affected by a life-limiting illness in Teesside make the most of every day and create lasting memories and experiences.

All the money raised from the midnight walk will go towards helping the hospice provide better end of life care and support for patients and families.  It costs around £18,500 every day to run the services.

Sophie Russell, senior communications officer at Teesside Hospice, said: “Every contribution makes a huge difference to the support we can provide. There’s so much enthusiasm and energy and a real community feeling as everyone comes together to create special memories and raise awareness and funds for a very special cause.”

A staggering £80,000 was raised last year by almost 700 walkers. The hospice hopes to make the 2026 event even more impactful and fun.

The walk takes place on Saturday 14th March, setting off from Redcar and Cleveland College.

Registrations open at 8pm, with the first walkers to set off around 10.15pm.

Domino’s Pizza will be waiting at the college for everyone to have some well-earned food and rest on their return.

Sophie said the earliest walkers start to arrive back around 11.30pm to midnight, with the event finishing around 2am.

She said lots of people hang around after the walk to enjoy pizza, chatting and celebrating their achievement.

There’s still time to get involved for those wanting to participate as people can register right up until the night.

Visit www.teessidehopice.org/events to sign up in advance.

Tickets are £15 each and include a midnight walk T-Shirt, flashing head boppers, a finishers medal and much more.
