The School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies recognises the importance and influence of social media on the student learning journey.

Since the launch of the @TeesUniSCEDT twitter account in October 2011, the School’s social media network has grown year on year to now also support Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Vimeo and YouTube. During 2019/2020, the School appointed a Social Media Coordinator, Justin Greetham, who conducted a review of its Social media activities and significantly restructured its networks and social media channels ( see SCEDT social media mind map here ) To compliment this portfolio of social media networks, Justin recently experimented with and launched a new GIPHY channel with a collection of GIFs that is predominately made up of student work taken from the BA (Hons) 2D Animation & Stop Motion portfolio. This GIPHY collection has recorded an extraordinary 442.4k views since it’s launch in 2020.

In the last 30 days 261.3k views. There is no doubt, this will help boost recruitment to our 2D Animation and Stop Motion degrees. The 2D Animation and Stop motion collection can be viewed here

Recognising the potential of this powerful tool for recruitment, enterprise and research, which will contribute to and the promotion of the School and the University more widely, the School has created additional channels which will be populated with GIFS from across its subject areas.

We are looking for movies, animations, stories, publicity material from staff and students from which to create GIFS. Content could be student work, related to your research project, or your own newly developed content.

If you have current content to contribute, or would be interested in finding out how to create GIFS, please get in touch with Justin Greetham ( ).

If you would like to get involved in helping shape the School’s social media strategy please get in touch with our Associate Dean (Marketing & Recruitment), Dimitrios Nicolaou (
