SPIRITS STILL HIGH FOR MARSKE UNITED AFTER FA CUP DEFEAT

2020 has been a very stop start season for all non-elite clubs, the first lockdown saw leagues at step 3-6 being cancelled this second one has seen their leagues postponed for the month. Even with the set backs however local non league team Marske United haven’t let it stop their progress as they have been in brilliant form since the football resumed. They won the North Riding Senior Cup in August, beating Thornaby 6-0 in the final. More impressively they reached the 4th round qualifying stage in the FA Cup for only the second time in their history.

The run saw them beat North Shields, Crook Town, Trafford, Consett Town and Blyth Spartans (who are in the National League North two leagues above Marske). It saw them score 13 goals and concede no goals, in doing this they actually equaled an FA Cup record of winning 5 games in a row without conceding, only Preston North End (1888/89) and Bury FC (1902/03) have achieved this when the both went on the win the completion all those years ago.

The team they faced were another National League North team in Brackley Town, they were away and unfortunately they did show why they are two leagues above by winning 5-1. Marske did however go into the lead 4 minutes thanks to Mathew Tymon, so they will always have that.

As we go into our second national lockdown I also wanted to find out how Carl feels about the postponing of the league and how they will try to stay positive so they can hopefully continue this rich vain of form for the rest of the season when it hopefully resumes next month.
