The most feared striker in the Northern Premier League has told TUXtra how much he is enjoying a prolific goalscoring season with runaway champions Redcar Athletic.
Adam Boyes leads the scoring charts with 39 goals in 36 appearances this season, helping Redcar to win the league after establishing a 20-point lead at the top of the table. In the most recent game, he managed to score four goals, giving Redcar Athletic the title and back-to-back promotion. He is building on a multi-club career as a clinical finisher, which saw him win the FA Cup Golden Boot with Marske United in the 2021/22 season.
Boyes told TUXtra: “It feels great. We have a fantastic team at Redcar with an excellent manager who knows how to get the best out of me.
“We have so much talent in attacking areas, and always create lots of chances. I’ve loved my time at Redcar Athletic. It’s such a well-run club, and I’ve met some great people in my time here. It’s a club on the up, and I’m sure the club will keep progressing up the footballing ladder.”
Now aged 35, Boyes spoke about his natural instinct for scoring.
“I try my best to stay fit and look after myself,” he said. “I’ve also been very lucky with getting no injuries. I’ve always scored goals. I suppose it’s just a knack of being there at the right time”
Boyes plays in the East Division of the Northern Premier League but has also outscored everyone throughout the Premier, Midlands and West divisions.
In the 2021/22 season, he scored 11 goals in Marske United’s FA Cup run, five of them coming in a single match. As the golden boot winner, he was given the honour of leading the teams out at Wembley Stadium before the 2022 FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.
The striker grew up in Lingdale and played for his local team before getting scouted by York City at 13. He is one of the best-known footballers in the Teesside region thanks to his legendary status at both Marske United and Redcar Athletic.
Last season, Boyes led Redcar to promotion to the Northern Premier League, which is the highest level they have ever played at. He is also one of the main reasons Redcar are top of the table – well clear of second-place Emley AFC as they reach the target of back-to-back promotions.
